About the seminar
In this seminar, Mixel Kiemen will present his decade-long postdoctoral research on the System of Creation (SoC), a framework that delves into the cybernetic principles underlying the emergence of novel phenomena. He will elucidate the evolution from the traditional single-loop model to a more intricate five-loop model, each loop integrating emergent properties such as feedback, evolution, autopoiesis, cognition, and culminating in consciousness through radiating emanation. Drawing parallels between the SoC's initial three loops and quantum physics, Mixel will explore the intriguing relationship between the material and immaterial worlds, proposing that just as atmospheric pressure spurred the Industrial Revolution, understanding the 'noosphere'—the sphere of human thought—might herald a new Mind Revolution. The seminar will also touch upon the enigmatic nature of memory, suggesting that while outer space presents a vacuum, inner space is defined by the mysteries of memory. Attendees can anticipate a discussion that bridges complex theoretical concepts with tangible examples, offering a fresh perspective on the interplay between cybernetics, cognition, and the potential for technological advancements aimed at exploring inner space.
About the speaker
Mixel Kiemen is a postdoctoral researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology, specializing in evolutionary cybernetics. His interdisciplinary PhD, completed at the Centre Leo Apostel for Interdisciplinary Studies (CLEA) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, focused on novelty regulation to produce radical change. Over the years, Mixel has delved into agent-based modeling, collective intelligence, and the foundational aspects of cognition in complex adaptive systems. His work often bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, reflecting his passion for exploring the boundaries of science and technology. Beyond academia, Mixel has experience as an entrepreneur, consultant, and coach, further enriching his multifaceted approach to research and innovation.
About the Imaginary Institute
This CLEA seminar will take place within the frame of the Imaginary Institute, an initiative of CLEA's ArtScience and Systems at Play programmes. The Imaginary Institute serves as a free-thinking laboratory dedicated to emergent complexity, collective imagination, play, collaboration, and the development of collective intelligence protocols for manifesting new ideas. In this context, Mixel Kiemen's presentation will adopt a playful and experimental approach, incorporating live games to illustrate the concepts discussed. This format aligns with the Institute's mission to foster innovative thinking and collaborative exploration, providing participants with an engaging and immersive experience that transcends traditional academic presentations.
